This is the first exhibition in Portugal by the French artist Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc (Cayenne, French Guiana, 1977). Particularly interested in the liberation movements of former Portuguese colonies - Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, in particular - and the analysis of image production, from illustrations for educational textbooks, photo reports and propaganda films, which translated in the years 1960-70 ideas of revolution and militancy, Abonnenc this exhibition presents a series of new works - especially for a medium-length film shot in Porto, and starring Bia Gomes, the lead actress of the most famous films of the Guinean filmmaker Flora Gomes - thought specifically to the halls of the Museum of Serralves. Produced during his stay of three months in this city, the projects start their research in various archives and museums Portuguese (the CIDAC - Center for Information and Documentation Amilcar Cabral, Mário Soares Foundation, through the National Museum of Ethnology) that allowed for example, reconsider the scope of the contribution of Amilcar Cabral for a liberated Africa, or review the work of filmmaker symbol of truth and militant cinema theaters Sarah Maldoror.
