After three albums without synthesisers, Stephin Merritt's band is returning to its roots, mixing synthesised and acoustic sounds as it did in the 90s on albums such as The Charm of the Highway Strip and Get Lost. Yet the return is only apparent, since the instruments used on the new album Love at the Bottom of the Sea, released in March on the Domino label, scarcely existed when the North American band first started using synthesisers.
