In a letter to his patron, Tchaikovsky revealed all the details of the story that gave rise to his Fourth Symphony, one of the best known scores in the entire symphonic repertoire. An excellent mark of Romanticism, the idea of destiny from which man cannot flee dominates the entire work. Among mundane pleasures, the confrontation between the individual and society and the most diverse existential conflicts, the symphony is a prime example of programmatic music and offers a larger-than-life story, making it an excellent choice for an introduced concert.
