The Gulbenkian Orchestra returns to the Casa da Música with an irresistible programme arranged by its Principle Conductor, Lawrence Foster. After the seductive rhythms of the waltz and the intoxicating sounds of Spanish music, reproduced by Maurice Ravel, the most talented orchestral composer of the 20th. century, the concert ends with the majestic New World Symphony. Composed by Dvóøak in the United States, the symphony represents a landmark in the affirmation of national languages and radically changed the destiny of North American music itself. The slow movement made it famous worldwide and it still remains a favourite with audiences today.
