“Locus Solus: Impressions of Raymond Roussel” is the first large scale exhibition ever dedicated to the influence of the writer (Paris, 1877 – Palermo, 1933) upon numerous creators, not only in the field of literature, but in the visual arts as well, from the twentieth century until today.
Co-produced by the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves Art and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the exhibition features approximately three hundred pieces – including paintings, photographs, sculptures, readymades, installations and videos, aside from books, documents, magazines and original manuscripts – that recreate Roussel’s universe and allow for a reflection on his prodigious legacy, which inspired some of the avant-garde movements, notably surrealism.
