The famous adventures of Pinocchio and Gepetto serve as the pretext for introducing youngsters to the rich universe of concert music. 15 short scenes revisit the events that made the puppet one of the most popular characters in children's fiction. Including a narrator who tells the story, this play by Michael Gandolfi uses specific musical themes to represent each character, providing colour and a pictorial feel to music written to arouse the visual imagination through the sounds of a chamber orchestra. When Robert Schumann wrote Scenes from Childhood for the piano he intended to represent adult memories of childhood. The piece, which became one of the most famous compositions of all time, was arranged for the orchestra by Brice Pauset in an unusual way, offering a version that is full of humour and in which the ghosts of time are no strangers.
