Mercado Ferreira BorgesR. da Bolsa 19, 4050-253 PortoBuilt in 1885 to replace the already old Ribeira Market, despite never having fulfilled the functions for which it was originally intended, due to the reticence of the traders in leaving the previous market, Ferreira Borges Market is nowadays used for exhibitions, cultural trade fairs and events.
The name of the market honors José Ferreira Borges, a Portuguese lawyer and politician who was at the origin of the implantation of the liberal regime in Portugal.
Currently it no longer serves as market of the city, being explored by private. This is best known as Hard Club on the lower level, and serves as cultural space, including concerts, exhibitions, book and music fairs, and is also used as a music studio. On the top floor there is a restaurant, N'o Mercado, with great views over the square and Palácio da Bolsa.
